North Shields Fish Quay has always been one of the region’s most distinctive coastal landmarks — a place rich in maritime history that’s now enjoying a new chapter as a vibrant hub for food, drink, and culture.

The area has seen a wave of regeneration in recent years, with its cobbled streets, working quayside, and new leisure spaces attracting both locals and visitors.

When the time came to refresh the lighting, the challenge was clear: how do you improve performance and safety while keeping the traditional look and character that make the Fish Quay so unique?

Working in partnership with Enerveo and North Tyneside Council, Vision Illumination supplied its Brunel luminaire, a design inspired by the classic swan-neck lanterns that once lined Britain’s historic streets. The Brunel captures that familiar heritage aesthetic but brings it firmly into the modern era, using circular design principles, sustainable materials, and contemporary manufacturing techniques to ensure long-term performance and efficiency.

The result is a lighting scheme that feels completely at home in its surroundings — sympathetic to the past yet built to meet today’s standards.
